Put simply, relationship counselling helps people work out whether their relationship is "good enough". I will offer you a safe, confidential space to explore your relationship, listening to each of you equally while remaining neutral and non-judgmental. I will help you to talk, to listen, and to improve your understanding of each other. During counselling, unhelpful patterns of behaviour may become apparent and we can work together to change these. As your relationship does not exist in isolation we can explore the impact of family, friends, work situation, finances, health etc.
The past influences how we behave in the present so I will encourage you to explore your previous experiences. We can also consider what you would like your relationship to become and, together, develop strategies to achieve this.
Every couple relationship is unique but these are some of the common themes that I encounter during counselling:
- Communication difficulties
- Feeling unconnected/ unloved
- Parenting
- Betrayal/ shame
- Separation/divorce
- Blended families
- Work/life balance
I enjoy working with adults of all ages, cultures, faiths, sexual orientation and gender identity. I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Relationship Therapy (University of Hull). Several times a year I attend workshops and courses to develop my knowledge and skills in areas of special interest.
I am a registered member of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and adhere to their Code of Ethics and Practice Guidelines.
When I am not counselling I try to keep physically and emotionally healthy with a mix of running, yoga, gardening, dog walking, mindful meditation, binge-watching tv and the occasional glass of red wine.
