what happens during psychosexual therapy?
You will never be asked to do anything sexual during the therapy sessions.
An initial face-to-face meeting with the psychosexual therapist in our counselling rooms in Harrogate, lasting for one hour, will explore the sexual and relationship problems that you are experiencing and help you to decide whether this service is appropriate for you.
A detailed assessment process follows - the therapist will interview each client for approximately 2hours each (typically for a couple this is done for an hour weekly and so takes four weeks to complete).
If the assessment process suggests that psychosexual therapy would be beneficial then a treatment programme is designed specifically for you- from then on you will be given exercises to do at home and attend regular therapy sessions to discuss your progress.
how long will it take?
Assessment takes 5 sessions/weeks, treatment on average takes another 15-20 sessions/weeks; exercises to do at home also involve a time commitment of approximately 3 hours a week.
